OPINION: LESSONS FROM THE OSUN ELECTION, A CALL FOR A GENUINE RECONCILIATION IN NIGER STATE APC News
The outcome of the 2026 Osun State governorship election offers an important lesson to the All Progressives Congress (APC). No political party can afford deep internal division and the alienation of its own members. The APC’s national leadership has already called for a serious review of what went wrong and the need for strategic reforms ahead of 2027. For us in Niger State APC, the message should be clear. Political differences, especially those arising from primaries and appointments, must not be allowed to destroy the larger family. Every aggrieved member, aspirant, former office holder, and stakeholder remains an asset to the party. The way forward is genuine reconciliation, sincere engagement, and inclusive leadership. Those who feel hurt or excluded should be reached out to, listened to, and brought back into the fold, not merely for electoral purposes, but because unity is fundamental to the strength of the party. Recent reconciliation efforts in Niger State show that there is already recognition of this challenge. What is needed now is to deepen the process through continuous consultations, respect for stakeholders, fairness, and a deliberate effort to rebuild trust at ward, local government, and state levels. Osun should not be merely a defeat to mourn; it should be a lesson to learn from. Let Niger APC choose reconciliation over confrontation, unity over division, and collective interest over personal ambition. 2027 requires a united APC. Let us reconcile, rebuild, and move forward together. Comr. Amb. Suleiman Abdullahi, FCAI. Former State APC Youth Leader, Niger State.
