NIGER STATE COMMITTEE ON FOOD AND NUTRITION HOLDS 2026 Q3 REVIEW MEETING

The Niger State Committee on Food and Nutrition (SCFN) has held its 2026 Third Quarter (Q3) review meeting in Minna.

In a statement by the Information Officer Planning Commission
Rahmat Hassan Lemu, the meeting was chaired by the Permanent Secretary, State Planning Commission, and Chairperson

Hajiya Aishatu T. Usman.

The Committee is responsible for coordination and harmonization of food and nutrition policies and programmes in the State, and membership is made up of Permanent Secretaries of frontline MDAs, chaired by the Permanent Secretary, State Planning Commission.

In line with its mandate, MDAs are required to present and submit quarterly updates on the progress of implementation and result at the quarterly meetings of the State Committee on Food and Nutrition to be called by State Planning Commission.

The Chairperson and Permanent Secretary, State Planning Commission, Hajiya Aishatu T. Usman, who commended some MDAs for a job welldone also expressed dissatisfaction over the non-compliance of some MDAs in submitting their quarterly updates on the progress of implementation and results at the quarterly meetings of the State Committee on Food and Nutrition.

Hajiya Usman noted that the regular submission of reports is mandatory and critical for effective coordination, tracking of results, and evidence-based planning.

She therefore directed all non-compliant MDAs to submit their outstanding Q3 reports to the Secretariat of the State Planning Commission .

Executive Director of the State Primary Health care Development Agency Dr Junaidu Inuwa described the attitude of defaulting MDAs as a major setback to the Committee’s mandate of harmonizing all food and nutrition interventions in the State.

He called on members to demonstrate greater commitment and ownership of nutrition programmes in their respective MDAs to ensure improved nutrition outcomes for the people of Niger State.

Highlights of the Q3 Review was the
Presentation of Q3 progress reports by some line MDAs on nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions, Review of implementation challenges, including low budget releases for nutrition.
