NIGER GOVERNMENT LIFTS CURFEW, EFFECTIVE MONDAY 21ST SEPTEMBER

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has lifted the curfew imposed in Minna, the state capital, effect from tomorrow.

This development follows the unrest linked to the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The curfew, which restricted movement between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., was introduced after protests and reported destruction of property in parts of Minna following the deaths of the detainees. Reports at the time described the measure as an overnight restriction.

The governor has now lifted the restriction, allowing normal movement to resume across the metropolis.

The curfew was imposed as authorities moved to restore calm and prevent further unrest after residents took to the streets following the deaths of the detainees.
