NIGER ASSEMBLY SCREENS, CONFIRMS SIX COMMISSIONER NOMINEES

The Niger State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed six Commissioner nominees forwarded to the House by the Executive Governor of Niger State.

The screening and confirmation followed a correspondence from the Governor which was read before the House by the Speaker, Hon. Barr. Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, during plenary. Following consideration of the correspondence, the House unanimously agreed to screen the nominees.

The nominees are:

1. Engr. Lucky Barau – Gurara Local Government Area
2. Hon. Isah Wakili – Bosso Local Government Area
3. Dr. Isah Adamu – Kontagora Local Government Area
4. Hon. Emmanuel Adamu – Magama Local Government Area
5. Hon. Shuaibu Bala Kaboje – Mashegu Local Government Area
6. Hon. Mohammed Danladi Garba – Borgu Local Government Area

During the screening exercise, the nominees were given the opportunity to introduce themselves and presented their profiles before the House. Members subsequently asked questions bordering on their experiences, competence, capacity and proposed contributions to the development of the State.

After responding to the questions, the nominees were invited to take a bow and leave the chamber.

Following the screening exercise, the House unanimously confirmed all six nominees as Commissioners-designate for the Executive Council of Niger State.

In his remarks, the Speaker, Hon. Barr. Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, commended the Executive Governor of Niger State for nominating what he described as competent and qualified individuals to serve in the State Executive Council.

The Speaker also appreciated members of the House for their commitment and attendance at the plenary despite the fact that the Assembly is currently on recess, noting that their presence underscored the importance of attending to matters of significance to the State.

HOUSE RECEIVES 2027–2029 MEDIUM-TERM EXPENDITURE FRAMEWORK AND FISCAL STRATEGY PAPER

In another development, the Niger State House of Assembly received an Executive Correspondence from the Governor on the Niger State Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF/FSP) 2027–2029.

The correspondence was read before the House by the Speaker, Hon. Barr. Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, during plenary.

The MTEF/FSP was forwarded to the House in line with the provisions of the Niger State Fiscal Responsibility Law, 2010, particularly Section 13(1)(b), which requires that, on or before the last business day of August of each financial year, a Medium-Term Fiscal Framework covering the subsequent three financial years be prepared and laid before the State House of Assembly.

The presentation of the 2027–2029 MTEF/FSP is aimed at providing the fiscal and strategic framework for the preparation of the State’s budgets for the three-year period.

The House will subsequently subject the document to the necessary legislative consideration in accordance with its Rules and relevant provisions of the law.
