The Honourable Commissioner of Health, Niger State, Dr. Murtala Muhammad Bagana, on Saturday conducted an unscheduled inspection of the newly remodelled facilities at the General Hospital, Minna, an investment by His Excellency, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, the Executive Governor of the State, weeks after their official commissioning, to assess maintenance practices and service utilisation.
During the visit, the Commissioner toured the Emergency Paediatric Unit, Paediatric Medical Ward and Paediatric Surgical Ward, where he engaged with the hospital management, clinical staff and patients to assess how the upgraded facilities have been serving the public since their reopening.
Dr. Bagana explained that the purpose of the unscheduled visit was to ensure that the significant investment by the State Government in the remodelling of the facilities was being properly utilised and translated into tangible improvements in patient care.
He stressed the need for the hospital management to ensure that all equipment and facilities are properly maintained, while guaranteeing that quality healthcare services remain accessible to residents of Niger State.
The Commissioner also urged the hospital staff to sustain high standards of professional care, with particular emphasis on prompt triage and management of emergencies to reduce waiting times and improve patient outcomes.
He assured the hospital management and staff that follow-up visits would be conducted as necessary to monitor the utilisation and maintenance of the upgraded facilities and ensure continuous improvement in service delivery.
In a gesture of compassion and support, Dr. Bagana also provided financial assistance to some patients to cushion the impact of their hospital bills.
It would be recalled that the Niger State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, recently commissioned the remodelled facilities at the General Hospital, Minna, as part of its ongoing efforts to expand clinical spaces, enhance diagnostic capacity, improve patient comfort and strengthen healthcare delivery across the State.
